Diaries, 1862-1865.

Transcriptions of Civil War diaries kept by Henry H. Cleveland of Milwaukee, Wis., who enlisted with the 10th Wisconsin Light Artillery Battery on Aug. 14, 1862. After being sworn in, Henry traveled to Camp Randall in Madison, and then south to Alabama, catching up with his unit there. The diaries vividly describe troop movements and Henry's experiences, including coming under attack by Confederate guerrillas, foraging for and stealing food, and encountering civilian resistance. Also included are photocopies of several photographs and maps.
